What are YOU selling?
It’s never what you think?
Upon hearing the question “what are you selling?,” you are likely inclined to immediately spew off what your core product or service is.
But instead of doing that, today, I’m asking you to approach the question from your customer’s perspective. What need(s) are you satisfying through your product or service?
For starters, you must refine a solid answer to who you are serving. Once you have clarity on who you are serving, you will know what they need and be able to deliver against their core needs and desires.
While you may think you are selling apparel, food, exercise equipment or beauty products, what you are actually selling goes a layer deeper. You are selling confidence, the ability to self-express, health, peace of mind and in the case of beauty, often illusions.
I invite you to always remember that on the other side of the transaction you make with customers is a human being with unmet needs. They are choosing to trust you and your brand to meet those needs, so don’t miss a chance to do just that.
BONUS: What do you think the advertiser is selling in the featured photo? The cute romper? The model’s curly hair? Her bracelet? Nahhh. We vote for none of these. While they may be promoting the oh so cute romper, We think they are selling a lifestyle, a fun, happy life attainable with the outfit.
